Human‑centred social leadership FOR AN AI era
The Challenge
As generative AI reshaped the technology landscape, Microsoft has sat at the centre of a major shift. Across Australia and New Zealand, its social media could no longer function as simple product promotion. It needed to help people understand change. Concerns around privacy, security, bias and cost were slowing adoption, even as interest accelerated.
Microsoft needed an always‑on social presence that could perform in‑feed, reinforce trust and support brand leadership in AI, while building strong, relevant communities across business decision‑makers, developers and technology‑engaged audiences.
The HERO Insight
Microsoft is a community of people building the future of technology.
To lead the AI conversation credibly, social needed to show not just what the technology could do, but who was building it, how it was being used, and why it could be trusted.
Complex technology needed to be translated into human, practical stories people could understand and believe.
The Strategy
HERO repositioned Microsoft’s AUNZ social channels, from LinkedIn to Instagram, to product‑led broadcasting to a human‑centred, always‑on ecosystem. The work focuses on real people, real use cases and real outcomes. Customer stories were reframed to demonstrate tangible impact, while brand content highlighted Microsoft’s people, culture and partnerships, positioning the company as a community of innovators rather than a distant corporation.
The always‑on program was designed around three clear objectives:

Driving AI adoption by addressing real barriers including privacy, security and business value
Customer and partner storytelling focused on real organisations and outcomes
Humanising the brand by showcasing Microsoft’s people, culture and ecosystem
All activity operates within strict global brand, legal and governance frameworks, supported by a templated design system that enables scale, speed and consistency across formats.
Alongside always‑on publishing, HERO has also delivered major campaign launches for key Microsoft products, including integrated product campaigns spanning social, film, events and large‑scale moments in market. This includes launch activity for flagship hardware such as Surface Pro, ensuring Microsoft’s always‑on presence and campaign moments work together as a single, coherent system rather than isolated bursts.
The Impact
Microsoft’s always‑on social channels have evolved into trusted, high‑quality spaces for conversation, education and community during a critical period of technological change.
By shifting away from product‑led broadcasting to human‑centred storytelling, the program strengthened Microsoft’s leadership narrative in AI and improved engagement quality, audience relevance and community sentiment across business decision‑makers, developers and technology‑engaged audiences throughout Australia and New Zealand.
Always‑on performance was complemented by high‑impact campaign moments. Social executions such as Meet My Copilot delivered more than one million impressions, achieved above‑benchmark video completion rates, and were recognised by Microsoft Global as best‑practice local execution during the rise of generative AI.
Beyond individual campaigns, the always‑on program established a scalable, compliant and governance‑led social system capable of supporting long‑term AI adoption, sustained community growth and trust for one of the world’s most highly governed global brands.
